Uninvited Ghost
When a new ghost wakes up in a graveyard, his Reaper sends him off on an epic yet cozy adventure to discover how he got there, and why he was murdered.
Collect and use magic runes! Scare and even possess villagers! Discover the truth, and hopefully make some friends along the way!
------
This preview is hardly complete. Only the intro scene and the first area (the village) are available. No new powers are collectable after the initial set you are given. The villagers go about their lives and you can frighten and startle them, take their bodies for a spin, and... that's about it.
But I had a lot of fun making it for the GameDev.tv Halloween Jam 2026, and I hope to continue adding to the adventure over time.

All of the graphics, music, and sound effects were created by real people (at least as far as I can tell). The code was written by Claude and me. The game was developed in Unity 6.5.

Waking up as a ghost and investigating your own death is a great hook, and possessing villagers to get around feels like the perfect power for it. I like that the tone is cozy instead of scary, which stands out in a jam full of horror.
If there is to be development over this base will the plan for each rune be to unlock a new way of meddling with the villagers routines?
Thank you!
Yes, I have plans for all of the Elder Futhark runes except for Eihwaz, which was missing from the rune set I found. I’m sure I could pretty easily make it out of the included blank, though.
Some runes will let you meddle with people, others will let you help them. Some will open up paths that were (will be, I guess) blocked, etc. Some of them just turn on basic abilities, like you need the “Wealth” rune (Fehu) to have a wallet and the “Property” rune to have an inventory.
